COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

JOB DESCRIPTION

Metropolis is seeking an experienced Communications Officer to join our dynamic Communications team. In this role, you'll be leading communication campaigns to promote and disseminate Metropolis’ initiatives, programs and events, helping grow our brand globally. As part of our team, you will be building and maintaining solid partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to continuously improve the organization’s strategic communications, contributing to our wider mission of shaping an inclusive and sustainable future for metropolises worldwide.

Main responsibilities

        Create engaging storytelling and narratives that convey the goals, vision and impact of Metropolis activity as an organization, as well as our members.

        Create, edit, and publish written and audiovisual content in different formats—including articles, brochures and reports, newsletters, social media content, videos and infographics—, ensuring coherence with the association's brand guidelines and communications strategy.

        Design and implement specific communications plans for programs, in collaboration with external partner organisations, ensuring clear, impactful messaging is effectively delivered to target audiences through a variety of channels and formats.

        Oversee content and design of Metropolis website and social media profiles, monitoring analytics and campaigns performance across digital channels.

        Ensure Metropolis brand guidelines are consistently applied by staff and collaborators, promoting them as a general working tool.

        Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including members, partner organizations, sponsors and funders, other cities’ networks and press

        Liaise with suppliers and freelancers, budget planning and management.

        Perform other tasks that may be required for the proper functioning of the Metropolis Secretariat General.


    Please note that this position will require some international travel: availability and willingness to travel to destinations including Asia, Africa, Middle-East and the Americas.




Requirements

Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in a similar position
  • Degree in Communication, Media, Journalism, or related area.
  • Proficiency in English with demonstrable use in professional context + fluency in Spanish and/or French. Additional languages are highly desirable.
  • Exceptional writing and presentation skills in English.
  • Creativity, innovative thinking and ability to produce impactful communication campaigns.
  • Highly organized, ability to prioritise and work in different projects simultaneously.
  • Experience using web management tools (Wordpress, Drupal, or similar).
  • Curious and inquisitive mindset, resolutive attitude, critical thinking and ability to navigate highly diverse environments.
  • Interest in current international affairs, innovation, sustainability, urban policy, gender issues

Desired Skills

        Experience working with international organisations is a strong advantage.

        Expertise in creating/editing audiovisual content.

        Knowledge of basic graphic design.

        Familiarity with CRM software.

        Accuracy and attention to detail.

        Cross-cultural sensitivity.

        Knowledge of urban issues and city networks will be considered a plus.

        Full-time (37.5 hours per week) with flexible hours (in line with specific requirements)

        Permanent contract

        Location: 70% on-site at the Secretariat General HQ in Barcelona and 30% online

        Gross annual remuneration: €39,000

        Immediate incorporation

        3 months trial period
